RoBIM Technologies

Bringing Robotics to the Construction Site

Meet RoBIM Technologies, an Edmonton-based company tackling one of construction’s most persistent challenges: productivity.

Born from firsthand experience with labour shortages, cost volatility, and the slow adoption of automation in construction, RoBIM brings together industry insight and cutting-edge research from the University of Alberta to rethink how buildings are made. While many industries embraced robotics decades ago, construction is only now reaching an inflection point, driven by advances in AI, digital planning, and automation.

RoBIM’s approach stands apart. Instead of large, centralized factories or single-purpose robots, the company is building a reconfigurable robotic fabrication platform called the HIVE. Designed for rapid changeover and on-, off-, or near-site deployment, the HIVE is supported by a growing library of over 25 robotic capabilities and intelligent planning software. RoBIM makes adoption easier by offering both turnkey system sales and a robotic-factory-as-a-service (RFaaS) model, fabricating on behalf of customers without requiring them to overhaul existing workflows.

Over the past year, RoBIM has made major strides:
  • Progressed from concept validation to paid customers
  • Expanded its robotic capability library to 25+ functions
  • Validated residential and commercial fabrication workflows that meet or exceed traditional cost, quality, and cycle-time benchmarks

The company has secured more than $2.5M in equity and non-dilutive funding and is currently undertaking a Seed round to support continued growth, system deployment, and hiring.

With initial revenues generated in Alberta and a strong pipeline in place, RoBIM is preparing for commercial launch. Upcoming milestones include the release of its first HIVE systems for wood-frame and light-gauge steel fabrication, the launch of Edmonton’s first RFaaS facility, and expansion into additional Canadian and international markets.

As part of Edmonton’s tech and innovation ecosystem, RoBIM credits access to applied research, industry expertise, non-dilutive funding programs, and support from Edmonton Unlimited for helping turn advanced robotics into real-world impact.

“Identify real, high-value problems before building solutions. Talk to customers early, test your assumptions, and stay persistent. Edmonton has everything you need to build globally relevant companies.”

We’re proud to support founders positioning Edmonton as a global hub for construction robotics and advanced manufacturing.
