Making Health-care Billing Finally Make Sense
Meet Osland Medical Billing Tools, a company built at the intersection of health-care operations, billing intelligence, and real-world clinic experience.
After more than 20 years working inside primary care clinics, Dawn Osland (the founder) saw a familiar pattern: physicians working incredibly hard, clinics under constant pressure, and billing systems that felt opaque, confusing, and often discouraging. That lived experience sparked a simple but powerful question: what if billing data actually helped clinicians understand what was happening, instead of punishing them for it?
Osland Medical Billing Tools focuses on insight over compliance. Their tools are designed to help physicians and clinic teams understand why billing outcomes look the way they do. Highlighting patterns, workflow impacts, and missed opportunities, without requiring deep billing expertise. The goal isn’t one-off fixes, but long-term learning and behaviour change.
Over the past year, the team has hit several meaningful milestones:
- Continued growth and adoption of the CMGP Calculator across Alberta
- Launch of Track My Time, supporting physicians working under alternative payment models
- Active development of BETTI, an AI-powered health-care billing intelligence tool
The company has remained primarily founder-funded, allowing the team to stay closely aligned with user needs while building and iterating intentionally. Along the way, they’ve formed collaborative partnerships with clinics, health-care educators, professional associations, and innovation partners prioritizing responsible adoption and real-world impact.
With eyes on the year ahead, Osland Medical Billing Tools is focused on momentum and refinement: launching CMGP Calculator V2, moving BETTI into beta, and exploring expansion into other provinces, including British Columbia.
As part of Edmonton’s tech and innovation ecosystem, Dawn credits mentorship, programming, and community through Edmonton Unlimited with helping shape their approach to customer discovery, storytelling, and scaling thoughtfully in a complex health-care environment.
“Fall in love with the problem, not the solution. Listen more than you pitch, test before you scale, and don’t underestimate the value of community—especially when the path forward feels uncertain.”
We’re proud to support founders building with empathy, experience, and intention, especially in systems as critical as health care.
