Nanode Battery Technologies

Powering the Next Generation of Energy Storage

Meet Nanode Battery Technologies, an Edmonton-based company pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in next-generation battery technology.

Nanode is operating at the frontier of sodium-ion batteries, developing solutions that are more affordable, durable, and scalable as global demand for electric vehicles and energy storage continues to surge. As the market calls for batteries that can charge faster, last longer, and cost less, Nanode is answering with breakthrough materials innovation.

What sets Nanode apart is its proprietary anode technology. The team has developed one of the most energy-dense anodes for sodium-ion batteries to date, delivering 2.5× higher energy density, ultra-fast charging in as little as 10 minutes, and durability of over 5,000 charge cycles. These advancements position sodium-ion batteries as a compelling alternative to traditional lithium-based systems.

Over the past year, Nanode has reached several major milestones:
  • Secured two multinational customers
  • Won a $1.5M Battery Industry Acceleration grant
  • Advanced commercialization efforts through global customer sales

The company has also attracted support from grants and venture capital, enabling Nanode to scale operations and accelerate product development.

Looking ahead, Nanode is focused on revenue growth and commercialization. A key upcoming milestone is the launch of its pouch cell prototyping line, allowing the team to build commercial battery prototypes and offer this capability directly to customers, an important step toward broader industry adoption.

As part of Edmonton’s tech and innovation ecosystem, the founder credits mentorship, peer support, and founder networks for helping Nanode move quickly and confidently in a highly competitive global market.

We’re proud to support founders building globally relevant, deep-tech solutions right here in Edmonton, especially those tackling challenges as critical as the future of clean energy.
